NEW DELHI: Echoing scenes from Bihar where student protesters recently danced under police water cannons, Jharkhand job aspirants on Monday broke followed suit as police turned water cannons on them during their ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march in Ranchi.Thousands of protesters breached multiple barricades while marching towards the Jharkhand assembly over alleged recruitment exam irregularities, prompting police to use water cannons, tear gas shells and lathi charges.Tensions escalated when the protesters reached the final barricade near Jagannathpur Temple, on the road leading to the assembly.

Police used water cannons to disperse the gathering, followed by lathi charges when protesters attempted to move forward. Several rounds of tear gas shells were also fired when the crowd came within around 200 metres of the assembly.The protest comes as the agitation led by the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch entered its 17th day. The march began around 10.30am from outside the old assembly building and coincided with chief minister Hemant Soren’s 51st birthday.The scenes in Ranchi came weeks after student protesters in Bihar similarly danced under police water cannons during a march towards the chief minister’s residence over alleged examination paper leaks, unemployment and recruitment irregularities.In Patna, protesters had broken into dance as water jets were used to stop them from advancing, while others sat on the road and raised slogans.
